KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/13 April)  – A top official of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in North Cotabato has admitted that the leader of a group that allegedly led last week an attack in Matalam town is one of their members.

HUA HIN, Thailand (MindaNews/01 March) --  Outgoing Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has committed to work for the immediate resumption of the formal peace negotiations between the the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as he reiterated Malaysia's willingness to help end the decades-old Moro rebellion in Mindanao.

Abdullah, however, has less than a month to fulfill his commitment. Following disastrous results in last year’s general elections, he is scheduled to step aside on March 31, in favor of Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Suara condemns bombing of MNLF camp in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/1 May) -- A Moro group has condemned the bombing of a Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) camp in Indanan, Sulu by the Marines last Wednesday.

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/25 April) – Moro leader Nur Misuari was granted bail by a regional trial court in Makati, six years, three months and 18 days since he was moved from Malaysia to Manila for detention on alleged rebellion charges.

Sema elected chair of “MNLF”


DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/02 March)  -- Cotabato City Mayor Muslimin Sema  has been elected chair of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) allegedly by the Central Committee in Pagadian City Tuesday night.

Sema told MindaNews he was elected “by unanimous decision of the more than 2/3 Central Committee members present.”

Generals want to institutionalize peace trainings for soldiers

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (MindaNews/6 Nov) -- The top brass in the military in Mindanao, as well as commanders on the ground, feel the need to institutionalize trainings on peace building and conflict management to help bring about peace in the island and as part of the efforts to transform soldiers to become responsible warriors.  

This was the consensus among generals and colonels gathered in a forum at the Balay Mindanaw Peace Center here Wednesday last week, after ground commanders whose soldiers had undergone peace building trainings presented testimonies of the good the seminars had brought to their units.

Court grants Misuari permission to attend Jeddah meeting

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/06 November) – A regional trial court  has granted Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chair Nur Misuari permission to attend the tripartite meeting with the Philippine government and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from November 10 to 12.

Misuari’s petition to travel to Jeddah, where he lived in exile from the early 1970s to 1996, was granted by Judge Winlove Dumayas of the Regional Trial Court Branch 59 in Makati City on condition he would not, among others, engage in any political or other activity that would be inimical to the Philippine government, while abroad, and he would return by November 13.
