Barangay Polls

KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/Nov 29) – Some 30 volunteers of the Citizens Coalition for ARMM Electoral Reforms (CARE), a Cotabato-City based poll watchdog, completed over the weekend a three-day assessment of the October 29 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/07 November) --  The Commission on Election in the province of North Cotabato has appealed to all Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan candidates who won or lost in  the October 29 polls to clean up the mess they left behind.

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/31 October) -- Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's eldest son Paolo won over four other rivals as village chief of Barangay Catalunan Grande, a victory that many say would be his ticket to a post at the city council presided over by his younger sister, Vice Mayor Sara Duterte.

KORONADAL CITY (MindaNews/29 October) --  Hundreds of voters in this city and neighboring areas failed to cast their votes in today's Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections after a number of polling precincts remained closed due to the absence of the board of election tellers (BETs).

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/29 October) -- Police reported a generally peaceful election here, citing only one election-related violence as of midday. 

But there was a "very" low voter turnout, prompting  Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to say Dabwenos lack interest in their barangay government.

PAGALUNGAN, Maguindanao (MindaNews/29 October) -- But for a gunshot or two intended to scare rather than kill, voting was generally uneventful here compared with past elections but attention is being focused now on possible post-balloting violence, police and Army officials said. 

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews/29 October) --  The Philippine National Police (PNP)  deployed an additional 500 policemen this morning to  identified hotspots or areas of immediate concern in  Southwestern Mindanao (Region 12) to help avert the possible escalation of election-related violence in the area.

MARAWI CITY (MindaNews/28 October) -- Election officials in Lanao del Sur, the so-called  “vote capital” in the country, are optimistic Monday's barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections would be peaceful with many candidates for barangay chair running “unopposed.”

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/28 October) – Residents in nearly all of Mindanao’s 27 provinces and 33 cities experienced power outage between 1 p.m. and  7 p.m. Sunday, eve of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, but officials of the National Transmission Corporation (Transco)  ruled out “terrorist attack” and instead blamed the brownouts on “major system trouble.”

SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao (MindaNews/24 October) -- The provincial office of the Commission on Elections here is locked on this Wednesday morning and provincial capitol employees can't say where the Comelec personnel are.
