Thousands line up road for Mindanao Peace Power Day

DATU PIANG, Maguindanao  (MindaNews/18 March) – What would have taken only a few minutes to negotiate the 14-kilometer stretch from the Cotabato-General Santos highway to Datu Piang in Maguindanao took more than an hour as thousands of  evacuees and residents lined the road chanting “MOA-AD,”  raising messages written down on manila paper, sack and plywood, demanding government to “respect, implement, sign and support” the MOA-AD.

'Bakwit' killed in grenade blast

Peace talks should be discussed by all

ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews/14 February) --- The peace process should not be discussed exclusively by combatants but  “we also need to talk to bakwits, the farmers, and all of the segments of our society.”

Fr. Community dialogues on peace slated for April-May

There is no order for evacuees to return home, the mayor’s executive assistant and an Army official in Datu Piang, Maguindanao, said.

In a report, the Mindanao Tulong Bakwet (MTB), an organization that attends to the needs of the evacuees, quoted Musib Tan,  executive assistant to the Datu Piang mayor, as saying that they did not coerce the evacuees to return home but “encouraged” those whose places of origin have been declared “safe” by the military, to return home.

GRP panel prepares for peace talks with MILF

KORONADAL CITY (MindaNews/28 Jan) -- The newly constituted government peace panel is now busy preparing for the resumption of talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Renewed Moro rebs' attacks force residents to flee homes in NorthCot

Alamada Mayor Ernesto Concepcion said the situation in the area is still volatile because the 30 or so heavily armed MILF rebels are still in the mountainous portion of the village.
