21 int?l poll observers deployed in ARMM

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/10 May) -- The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), in collaboration with the  Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and its partner Moro civil society organizations in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has deployed 21 international observers from six Asian countries with a significant Muslim population, to monitor the May 14 elections in the region.

BUKIDNON (MindaNews/09 May) – Virgilio Garcillano the candidate is “ not running scared”  against his two opponents in the congressional race for the first district of Bukidnon.

“Why will I be scared?” the controversial former elections commissioner told MindaNews late Monday afternoon in his farm in Baungon. “You know, this is a win-win situation for me. If I win, well and good. And probably I can show to them that I had not been doing any cheating or rigging of the elections. And if I lose, that means I am not a good cheater, I am not a cheater at all. Because that is always the accusation of these people.”

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/04 May) – Years ago in Mindanao, political dynasties were mostly associated with the Moro. These days, they’re more associated with the non-Moro.

In the past, they ruled in succession -- e.g. father first then the eldest son. These days, they rule altogether - husbands and wifves, fathers and sons, fathers and daughters, mothers and daughters, mothers and sons, brothers, sisters, uncles and nephews.
