ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews/09 July) — The crime solution efficiency of the Iligan City police during the first quarter of 2010 was only 7.29%, the National Statistical Information Center based in Cagayan de Oro City said in its StatWatch report.

The NSIC said that in the first quarter Iligan had a total crime volume of 672 of which 581 are index crimes and 91 are non-index crimes. Only 49 of these crimes were solved during the period itself

According to the center, there were 9 cases of murder, 95 cases of physical injuries, 5 rape cases, 167 cases of robbery, 284 cases of theft, 17 cases of car theft, and 4 cases of cattle rustling.

The NSIC used the data from the Philippine National Police-Region X.

City mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz said the local government will provide all the support needed by the police but that he will “demand effective and efficient resolution to increasing crime rate in the city” in three months.

Melvin Anggot, city information officer and personal secretary to the mayor, said the mayor has twice discussed with city police director Senior Supt. Bernardo Reamon Jr. the city’s security plans and needs.

Anggot said the mayor promised to support the needs of the police, in particular the P4-million budget for the procurement of more patrol vehicles and communication facilities. (Violeta M. Gloria/MindaNews)
