ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews/4 Aug) — Gunmen shot and killed a provincial prosecutor while he was talking to an associate during a routine jogging exercise in Iligan City this morning, police reports said.
Senior Police Officer Alym Zalsos, of the Iligan City police station 4, said Fiscal Makadatar Marsangca, Lanao del Norte provincial prosecutor, died after two gunmen shot him on the back, at the Pryce Property in Barangay Tubod around 6:45 a.m.
Marsangca died immediately, police said. An empty shell of a caliber .45 bullet was found on the scene by the responding policemen.
Zalsos said a witness told policemen that the two suspects left on board a motorcycle.
The killing of Marsangca sent a shockwave to officials in Iligan City and Lanao del Norte.
Lanao del Nortel board member Alex Ali appealed to Justice Secretary Leila De Lima to conduct a speedy investigation to Marsangca’s murder.
“The killing needs an immediate action to solve it,” Ali said.
Lanao del Norte Governor Mohammad Khalid Dimaporo said Marsangca have no known enemies.
“Marsangca championed the justice system in Lanao del Norte and helped promote peace in the province.
The death of Prosecutor Marsangca is a great lose to the province,” Dimaporo said.
Iligan City police director Supt. Bernardo Reamon said he has asked the National Bureau of Investigation to help solve the murder case.
“We are looking into two different angles of the crime — one on a family feud and second, Fiscal Marsangca was handling a high profile case in Lanao del Norte,” Reamon said. (MindaNews)
