COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/10 April) — A grocery owner abducted here on April 1 was freed early Sunday morning in Barangay Balanaken, Datu Piang, Maguindanao.
Jinkee Lim Yap, 38, was freed by her abductors at around 2:30 a.m. to Cotabato City officials led by City Administrator Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, a report from the Eastern Mindanao Command said.
A convoy of operatives accompanied Sayadi and brought Yap, her feet still muddy, at the City Hall here shortly after 3 a.m., where Mayor Japal Guiani Jr., and officials of the Marines and Philippine National Police welcomed her.
Yap lost weight, too.
Sayadi told officials inside the mayor’s office that aside from the pursuit operations of the Army and the Marines, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) also helped pressure the kidnappers into releasing Yap.
Col. Dorotheo Jalandoni, commander of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 7, said no ransom was paid to the kidnappers.
He said the kidnappers were pressured to free Yap after feeling the pressure from the pursuing troops and the MILF. (Ferdinandh B. Cabrera/MindaNews)
