Trader shot dead in Isulan

KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/16 December) — A trader was gunned down while on her way to a public market in Isulan town in Sultan Kudarat past 6:00 a.m. Monday, belated police reports said.

Police identified the victim as Rogelia Bengan, a resident of nearby Esperanza town, who was at the market with her husband when the shooting incident took place.

After hitting Bengan, the attackers fled onboard a Suzuki raider motorcycle. But policemen who responded after a few minutes shot dead a suspect identified as Baganian Mopak, a farmer from Bagumbayan town in Sultan Kudarat.

Chief Insp. Roel Sermese, chief of Isulan police, said the victim’s husband sought assistance from policemen stationed nearby and a running gun battle ensued, resulting in Mopak’s death.

Police recovered the motorcycle a few meters away from the crime scene. It bore plate number MC 7081 and was established to have been stolen from Ronel Sebastian, a trader in Isulan.

Police were still clueless as to the motive of the killing. (Malu Cadelina Manar/MindaNews)
