TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (MindaNews/12 Jan) – A businessman and his aide died when four still unidentified armed men barged into his residence in the municipality of Sultan Naga Dimaporo in Lanao del Norte Tuesday evening, police reports said.
Senior Supt. Orlando Benias, provincial police director, identified the fatalities as Danilo Yanoc, 50, of the capital town of Tubod; and his aide Allan Buctot, 47, of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.
They were reportedly resting outside the residence of Yanoc’s parents in the coastal barangay of Dangolaan looking at the construction of a fishing boat when the armed men came and shot them at 6:30 p.m. They both died on the spot, with Yanoc hit in the chest thrice and Buctot sustaining multiple wounds in his body.
Investigators from the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation are looking into possible extortion by an armed group operating in the Illana Bay, the body of water surrounded by the Lanao provinces and Zamboanga del Sur.
Benias quoted a relative of Yanoc as saying that some folks were asking a huge amount of money from Yanoc but the latter refused.
Their remains have been brought to their respective hometowns. (MindaNews)
