DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/16 January) – The ban on public utility vehicles (PUVs) with tinted windows is on. Starting Monday, January 17, the Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board will apprehend drivers of PUVs with tinted windows, “as a proactive and preventive measure” to avert criminal activities. Benjamin Go, regional director of the agency said the apprehension would be a joint effort of the Land Transportation Office, Traffic Management Center and Task Force Davao.
There are an estimated 5,000 PUVs here.
If drivers do not comply, he said, “among the penalties are the confiscation of driver’s license, a fine of P600.”
A January 3 memorandum ordered a total ban on window tinting of all PUVs “as a proactive and preventive measure to protect the public from illegal and criminal activities” such as kidnapping, human trafficking, drug trafficking, robbery or hold-up.
The drivers were given two weeks to comply.
On Friday, Edgar Violan, administrative officer of LTFRB-11, said around 85 percent of the drivers of about 5,000 PUVs here have complied “due to massive information.” (MindaNews)
