Mayor Macabangen Montawal told dxND Radio for Peace that as early as 4 a.m. Monday morning he had been receiving text messages and even intelligence reports from the Philippine National Police that a group of lawless elements will storm and burn the town hall.
This prompted the mayor to seek assistance of the 7th IB based in neighboring Pikit, North Cotabato, to augment the PNP personnel securing the vicinity of the town hall.
Montawal assured his constituents that despite the numerous threats he has been receiving it would not affect the daily operation of the employees inside the municipal hall.
“We let our policemen and the Philippine Army maintain the security and order in our area. Let us be vigilant in order to preempt any attack on our town hall,” the mayor said.
Montawal’s spokesperson Alonto Bangkulet attributed the numerous threats to the recently concluded May 14 elections.
Bangkulet said there are groups that could not accept the results of the election. (Williamor A. Magbanua/MindaNews)
