COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/03 October) – The election season is heating up in the city with the burning of a jeep of a candidate for chair of Barangay Bagua Dos at 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Incumbent Kagawad Azgar Badruddin, No. 2 councilor in their barangay, cried “foul” when his vehicle was set on fire while he was midway through his morning prayers.
The jeep was parked in front of his campaign headquarters, a few meters from his house.
Badruddin told MindaNews in a telephone interview that an uncle who was sleeping in the headquarters noticed the fire and quickly found ways to stop the fire from spreading.
He said a man in motorcycle was seen leaving when the vehicle was ablaze. They suspect the still unidentified man to be the culprit.
When the fire was put off, they discovered a sack inside the driver’s seat with combustible materials.
“This will not terrorize or stop me. With this scenario I will be more passionate to pursue my intention. I can’t refuse my constituents’ call to lead them,” Badruddin stressed.
At least three persons are running for barangay chair of Bagua: Badruddin, the wife of the present barangay chair, and the first councilor.
The barangay election is on October 25, synchronized with the Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) polls. (Ferdinandh Cabrera/MindaNews)
