“This is to unite Filipinos under one noble cause for the environment,” Environment Secretary Angelo Reyes told reporters after the launching program at the Davao City Convention Center Tuesday.
The tree planting will cover 2,176 kilometers of the Pan-Philippine Highway from Laoag City to Davao City; 439 kilometers along the Manila-Laoag road, and 824 kilometers of the West Nautical Highway from Batangas to Zamboanga Sibugay.
The planting project will cover more than a hundred kilometers in Southeastern Mindanao from Compostela Valley to Davao City.
According to a DENR leaflet, the project, which will cover a total of 3,439 kilometers, is intended to strengthen public concern towards environmental protection with "shared responsibility through social mobilization".
DENR named around 30 partner organizations including government and non-government organizations, socio-civic groups and private companies to plant mostly flowery and ornamental trees, and to maintain and protect the plants to ensure their growth and survival. (Walter I. Balane/MindaNews)
