Governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes said the completed food security projects covered at least 34 infrastructure, comprised mainly of irrigation and farm systems.
She said the bulk of the funds for these projects came from the Department of Agriculture (DA) while the remaining funding requirement was from the local government's counterpart.
Fuentes said the provincial government has earlier set aside 20 percent of its budget for development initiatives.
"The completion of these projects ensures the success of the implementation of food security programs in the province, especially in our production of palay and other food crops," the governor said.
The construction of the projects started between May 2006 and April 2007 based on the schedule of fund releases from DA.These projects were concentrated on the rehabilitation of river irrigation systems (RIS), communal irrigation systems (CIS), nursery development and warehouse construction and development.The irrigation component covered the rehabilitation of the Allah RIS, Banga RIS, Marbel RIS, Magsaysay CIS, Topland Dam CIS and Duengas CIS.
The other projects were the nursery development and warehouse construction in Banga town, construction of Tricoderma labotatory building, construction of the Katitisan supplementary dam and the rehabilitation of the Noble dam. (Allen V. Estabillo/MindaNews)
