Supt. Esmael Ali, the chief of police of Shariff Kabungsuan, said the gunmen arrived at the provincial DAR office in Barangay Dalican at around 10 p.m., and disarmed the office guards.
They immediately poured gasoline on the building and set it on fire.
The suspects fired shots in the air before fleeing to the interior portion of Barangay Dalican, the police report said.
Ali said the DAR provincial office had been receiving threats from still unidentified persons in the province who had been demanding livelihood projects from the DAR officials.
What puzzled authorities was the report that the suspects, before sprinkling gasoline into the building, snatched important documents from the office of the DAR provincial director.
Authorities have yet to find out why the suspects were interested in those papers. Police said they have yet to establish the motive. (MindaNews)
