MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/22 Nov) – Members of the Bukidnon news media are commemorating the first anniversary of the Ampatuan Massacre with a mass on November 23 starting at 4 a.m. at the San Isidro Cathedral.
The Bukidnon commemoration of the killing of 58 people, 32 of them journalists, in the municipality of Ampatuan in Maguindanao is dubbed “Never Forget.”
Fr. Jonathan Tianero, station manager of the church-owned DXDB AM radio, will officiate the Mass to be attended by local journalists, media friends, workers, politicians, and other stakeholders.
After the mass, Atong Press, a local media support desk, has organized a march to the Malaybalay City Freedom Park for a candle lighting activity. There will be updating on the murder cases filed against 196 suspects of the Ampatuan Massacre.
Atong Press has also brought the MindaNews photo exhibit dubbed “Sudden death, slow justice” to Malaybalay City for a week-long stay at the Bukidnon State University Ethno-Cultural Museum.
The photos will be available for public viewing from Nov.
23 to 30.
The organizers have also schedule radio-hopping to give updates and explain the relevance of the commemoration to the public.
