Arid Thoughts on a Sunday Morning

On a sunny
Sunday morning,
the faucet
I opened
and the water
came
drip-
drip-
dripping…

drip-

drip-

dripping…

the pauses
in between
lengthening
until
not a drop
dripped,
until
there was
nothing…

I waited
and waited
for the drops
to drip
again
but
there
was
nothing
for a long time.

While waiting
for the drops
to drip again,
a thought
alarming
rose in my mind:

What if
the drops
won’t drip again
forever?
What if
the rivers
and streams
and springs
dried up
and there
would be
no more rain?
What if
all these
would really
happen,
and it would be
too late
to do anything?
