CARDINAL QUEVEDO ON EID’L FITR: Peace in the heart – this is my prayer for all of us

(Message of Cardinal Orlando B. Quevedo, OMI, Archbishop of Cotabato on Eid’l Fitr, the end of the Ramadan)

My Esteemed Muslim Brothers and Sisters:

Eid Mubarak! We rejoice with you as you end the holy month of Ramadan.

We have many religious practices that have similar intentions. Ramadan and our Lenten fast and abstinence are meant to combat our inner passions, purify our inner selves and order them to the will of God. We are called to practice charity dring the time of fasting and abstinence.

The bottom line of all these physical and spiritual sacrifices during Ramadan and our own Lenten season is to restore peace, peace between us and God, peace between ourselves and others, and peace between us and our environment.

Today we need peace more than ever. We know that the Bangsamoro Basic Law, if substantially compliant with the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro and with the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, will establish a legally binding just and lasting peace.

But Ramadan and Lent teach us that the fundamental basis of peace is in the heart, where peace with God and with our neighbor should reign. Peace in the heart – this is my prayer for all of us.

On behalf of all our Priests, Religious Brothers and Sisters in the Archdiocese of Cotabato, I greet you once again, Eid Mubarak!

Cardinal Orlando B. Quevedo, OMI
