QUARANTINE DIARIES: Ang Pagpangawat atol sa Panahon sa Pandemya

(English Translation below: Thievery during Pandemic times)

Timan-i, dili nato gusto modaghan ang kawatan.

(English Translation: Thievery during Pandemic times

At 6 o’clock earlier this morning I went to my cousin’s vacant residential lot of which I am the caretaker by virtue of our good relationship.

I found out that the two bunches (bulig) of bananas I was supposed to harvest were already taken by another person unknown to me. I could say that the fruits of my planting efforts were stolen.

Instead of becoming angry, I practiced understanding and tolerance considering that the thief must had been in great need because we are in difficult times. I just hoped that the bananas had fed the hungry especially children.

But this happening is indicator of the changes occurring in our neighborhood. My long-time neighbors can attest that I freely share with them the bananas and mangoes that I harvest. If there is more, that I sell. I am sure the thief did not come from among my old neighbors but from among the new residents in the area.

My purpose in posting this is to bring to the attention of Barangay Cagangohan that I am willing to convert the said 500 sqm lot into a COMMUNITY GARDEN here in our location at Purok Lomboy adjoining Purok Guyabano.

I am an Organic Gardener and am willing to teach anyone who desires to learn, especially but not limited to our community. You have no reason to steal food because there is a piece of land where we can plant for our food. This is my message to the community.

I hope Barangay Cagangohan will support this view and initiative. I am ready to answer should there be questions.

Remember, we do not want thieves in our community. Community Gardening is an effective response to food needs. Thank you for reading.)
