COTABATO CITY (MindaNews / 20 January ) – Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process has appealed for sobriety following the grenade explosion at the residence of a municipal judge at around 9:10 p.m. Sunday, 10 hours before the polls open to ratify RA 11054 or the Organic Law for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
No casualties were reported in the explosion inside the compound of the residence of Judge Angelito Rasalan along Sta. Maria St. Mother Barangay Rosary Heights. –
According to Police Chief Inspector Efren Salazar, Jr., station commander of Cotabato City-Police Staton 2, initial investigation showed a grenade landed on the roof of the house adjacent to Judge Rasalan’s before it exploded.
Recovered from the scene during the post-blast investigation were a pull ring and lever.
Initial police reports said that while the Rasalans were preparing to sleep, “two loud bursts” were heard emanating from their compound, “believed to have been thrown by still unidentified suspects.
Salazar said witnesses saw two men on a motorcycle moments before the two explosions happened.
Rasalan is assigned at the Municipal Circuit Trial Court in Nuro Upi, Maguindanao. He is the brother of Aniceto, the Executive Secretary of Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi.
Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Carlito Galvez, Jr., urged the public to avoid speculations as the Commission on Elections has announced that it is not clear as yet if the bombing was election-related or work-related.
“Just stay calm and do not speculate since the investigation is still ongoing. The security forces and Comelec are on top of the situation and we should not issue any premature conclusions,” Galvez said. (Manman Dejeto / MindaNews)
