140 YEARS AGO. A vendor selling ethnic-inspired jewelries and souvenir items whiles away time playing his drum beside the ruins of Gui-ob Church in Catarman, Camiguin that doubled as a fort during the Spanish era. Built in 1623 and called Cotta Bato, the structure was destroyed when Vulcan Daan (Old Volcano) erupted on May 13, 1871. The eruption also buried a cemetery in nearby Barangay Bonbon.
