Bishop Elenito Galido welcomes Maribel Nagita and her family to a bunkhouse in Barangay Luinab in Iligan City built by the Catholic church Feb. 6, 2012. The Diocese of Iligan has so far provided temporary homes for 48 families, among them for the families of 12 carpenters who volunteered to build shelters Sendong evacuees. Maribel was 8 months pregnant at the time but was still able to climb up a mango tree with his son 4-year-old son Karlvin and 15 others in the neighborhood. Her husband Carlo, who prioritized his family’s safety, was swept by the flood when a log hit him. Fortunately, he was able to grab a branch of a Talisay tree downstream. The family was reunited the morning after, and Maribel gave birth to Aljur last January 25. But they were not able to save both of Maribels parents, who are still missing up to this day.
