COTABATO CITY (MindaNews / 19 January) — Cotabato City voted against inclusion in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in 1989 and in the supposed “expanded” ARMM in 2001.

On Monday, January 21, residents will vote in a third plebiscite on the inclusion of the city, this time in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the new autonomous political entity that will replace the ARMM.

The city’s streets have become a battleground of sorts for the “yes” and “no” supporters.

A tarpaulin urging passersby to reject the Bangsamoro organic law is displayed along Sinsuat Avenue in Cotabato City on the day that the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and its supporters formally launched their campaign for ‘yes’ inside the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) compound in Cotabato City on December 10, 2018.
