Kidapawan LGU distributes kits for poor teachers

Mayor Rodolfo Gantuangco led the distribution of some 600 teachers’ kit in a ceremony held at the convention hall of the Department of Education (DepEd) along JP Laurel St.

Gantuangco said the beneficiaries are poor teachers who have difficulties buying their own educational devices since they also spend for the education of their children.

“This is already a perennial problem, especially during opening of the school year. So, to unburden our poor teachers from spending their own money to buy educational tools, we provide them these kits,” said Gantuangco.

This project is the second since Gantuangco assumed post in 2004.

Items such as bags, pens, pentel pens, lesson plans, school registers, manila papers, art papers, cartolinas, correction pens, adhesive glues, and masking tapes were all given for free to at least 579 poor teachers.

An additional 300 kits would be distributed next week.

Gantuangco said the project is part of the city government’s vision of addressing poverty among the poor teachers.

“When we help the teacher meet their needs, it would become a motivating factor for them to do better service, and in turn, achieve quality education,” he stressed. (Malu Cadeliña Manar / MindaNews)
