Representative Yusop H. Jikiri of the First District of Sulu submitted a bill concerning the marine resources in his constituent area. “An Act Establishing A Multi-Purpose Fish Breeding Station and Crab, Prawn and Shrimp Hatchery in All Suitable Areas in the Province of Sulu” was finally approved and was appropriated funds.
Also known as House Bill 3219, the bill also provides ‘continuing research and experimentation on fish, crab, prawn, and shrimp culture for the purpose of improving existing technology.”
“This is among the other requests made by the people in the area and the approval of this bill is a welcome development,” he said.
Upon drafting the bill, Rep. Jikiri aims to maximize income potential of the fishing industry. “This will certainly augment the daily income of our fishermen folks in the province and eventually improve the quality of their lives,” Rep. Jikiri said.
Sulu’s main source of livelihood is fishing and farming revealing the abundance of aqua-marine resources in the area.(Leila Asani Halud/Office of Rep. Jikiri)
