Tagum celebrates 6th Durian Festival

City of Tagum – The Mindanao’s Biggest Durian Festival celebration will kick-off on August 7 at the Rotary Park Plaza which will also be the venue for the month-long showcase of different varieties of fresh durian fruit grown in Tagum City.

Durian Festival 2010 will showcase sixteen (16) culinary competitions such as: Durian Extreme Flare Factor (Cocktail and Mocktail); Restaurant Complete Services; Durian Pie; Durian Kakanin; Durian Filled Bread; Durian Celebration Cake; Durian Entremet; Durian Petit Four; Durian Dessert Buffet; Cookery (Main Dish); Durian Coffee Blending; Plated Durian Dessert; Fruit and Vegetable Carving; Waiter’s Relay and Food Basket in the Barangay.

Durian as its main ingredient, a modified Tagum-made food products for pasalubong, are the fruits of labor from a Plant Now Pay Later (PNPL)
program wherein farmer-beneficiaries have an exclusive privilege to sell their durian fruit in trade fair area where costumers will be entertained by nightly presentations while eating durian.

Durian Festival promotes Tagum City as the City of Durian. It will showcase the talents of the Hotel Restaurant Management (HRM) and
Culinary Arts students during the competition and provides an avenue for the local growers to sell durian fruit and their by products.

“The Durian Festival Culinary Competition is open to all HRM and Culinary students coming from Davao Regions. We have expected more than four hundred students coming from Eleven (11) Colleges and Universities who have already confirmed their participation,” says Senior Tourism  Operation Officer Geraldine B. Abella.
