The Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy (PCID) will hold a lecture on the theme, “Political Options for the Bangsamoro: Federalism, Autonomy, or Independence?” on August 5, 2010, 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the College of Law Auditorium of the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) in Zamboanga City.

The lecture, supported by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and co-organized with the Institute of Asian and Islamic Studies (IAIS) of WMSU, will focus on the political modes of addressing the struggle of the Bangsamoro for self-determination. PCID President Amina Rasul will be the main speaker for the lecture.

The lecture series, a vital component of the advocacies undertaken by the PCID, commenced at the University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao in Davao City last month. It was the first lecture activity for the current school year. The lecture, at the same time, is slated to be held in other universities throughout the country. The lecture series is principally intended to provide a venue where non-Muslims in the academe and other sectors can discuss issues important to Muslim communities in the country. It also allows for an interfaith discourse on how to address the problems of Muslims in the Philippines.
