Insular Life invests P1M in eagle conservation efforts

Insular Life, the first and largest Filipino insurance company, increased its efforts to protect the Philippine Eagle and its forest habitat by
donating One Million Pesos to the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF).

In a short ceremony held recently at the company’s headquarters in Alabang, Insular Life Chairman and CEO Vicente R. Ayllon signed a
Deed of Donation with PEF Vice Chairman Carlos A. Pedrosa committing to support the PEF’s various conservation efforts.

“We believe in what the Philippine Eagle stands for: foresight, wisdom, and devotion to family.  These are the traits that inspired us to take up  the Philippine Eagle as our new company logo when we celebrated our centennial,” Ayllon said.  “We cannot allow such an important Philippine treasure to fade into extinction, and we certainly don’t want to give our children a future where our natural resources have all been destroyed.  This moved us to partner with the Philippine Eagle Foundation to help ensure that future generations will still get to see the Philippine Eagle and enjoy all the benefits that healthy forests provide.”

Insular Life’s donation will be supporting the PEF’s holistic approach to conservation, which is based on scientific research and uses Philippine
Eagle nests as focal points for community-based strategies to protect what remains of the Philippine forests.  Wherever eagle nests are found, the
PEF works with communities and government units to ensure that the nest and the forest territories that surround the nest are protected.  In the
Philippine Eagle Center in Davao, the PEF also rehabilitates and breeds eagles for release to the wild, and engages in programs to educate the
general public on the Philippine Eagle and on caring for the environment.

PEF Vice Chairman Carlos Pedrosa considered Insular Life’s donation as a
crucial investment into keeping the Philippine environment healthy in the
long term.  “Healthy forests are the source of life, protection, and the
assurance that generations to come have resources to draw from.  Forests
serve as an insurance.  No one understands that better than Insular Life
and we are deeply honored to partner with Insular Life in forest and eagle
conservation,” Pedrosa said.

Insular Life marked its 100th founding anniversary on November 25, 2010.
