The city government’s Educational Assistance for relatives of victims of the 2003 Sasa Wharf and Davao City old International Airport bombings are continuing, the City Social Services Development Office (CSSDO) said.
CSSDO head Maria Luisa Bermudo noted that for the children of the Sasa Wharf bombing alone, the city government has already spent around P5 million in educational assistance.
The assistance was for children and kin of all victims, whether killed or had only been injured.
Bermudo said that 14 years after the incident that killed 15 civilians and injured 46 others, the city has already spent for over 500 scholars enrolled in various colleges and universities in the city.
The bombing at the old airport resulted in the death of over 20 people.
Bermudo said the assistance will continue as long as the scholars are willing to continue their studies.
“The beneficiaries of our educational assistance can choose their own schools, whether it’s a public or a private school. They can even choose their own course,” she said.
However, Bermudo said the beneficiaries needed to inform the CSSDO if they decide to shift courses.
