Ateneo bags table tennis title, Holy Cross rules chess events

Ateneo’s Jonathan Dimailig and Randy Francisco beat the tandem of Jan Bernard Villegas and Rudy Sancover of Cor Jesu College of Digos to bag the title in the men's doubles table tennis event.

Maria Aysa Aguirre and Faith Roxanne Lopez teamed up for Ateneo to dominate Angelli Doren Gallano and Joveryl Rodriguez of Holy Cross to clinch the women's crown.

San Pedro College copped the third place honors in both divisions with Rey Mercado and Ryan James Francisco in the men's side and Coralou Estampa and Lovely Joy Telen in distaff side.

Holy Cross Jacqueline Caragao showed she's still the best lady player in town when she ruled the women's singles event.

Caragao defeated teammate Debby Kate Mascardo of Holy Cross of Davao. San Pedro College's Dorothy Araral took the second runner-up honors.

Joey Lou Suico clinched the men's singles crown as he trounced Vixcer Lopez of SPC while Raymund Francisco of SPC bagged the third spot.

In chess, Holy Cross of Davao College bagged its third women's crown while its men's squad regained its supremacy.

The Holy Cross lady wood pushers tallied a total of 14.5 points to bag the title while Serrano and Isel who anchored Holy Cross to third place finish in last years National University Games in Bacolod, were named individual best performer in board 1 and board 2 respectively.

Other members of the Holy Cross ladies team are Serrano and Isel, Princess Eunice Grace Aseneta, Karen Charmain Roman and Myrna Bragas also shared their efforts to help San Pedro College take 9 points to finish second place while Kathy Florence Baldonado led Ateneo De Davao University copped the third place honor with 8.5 points.

Mohamad Sacar led Holy Cross which tallied 15 points en route to the overall supremacy in the men's chess competition. Sacar was named individual best performer in board 1.

Brokenshire College settled for second place with 10 points while Ateneo De Davao University took 8.5 points for third place. (Rico Biliran/MindaNews)
