More than 100 amateur boxers from seventeen boxing teams in the Visayas and Mindanao will fight it out in the boxing event that is among the activities marking the 38th anniversary of General Santos City.
Competitions will be in 13 weight categories including 26 kgs., 28 kgs., 30 kgs., 32 kgs., 34 kgs., 36 kgs., 38 kgs., 40 kgs., 42 kgs., 44 kgs., 46 kgs., 48 kgs. and 51 kgs.
The over-all team champion will get P35,000 cash prize, while the first runner-up receives P20,000, second runner-up P10,000 and third runner-up P5,000.
The non-winning teams will each get a consolation prize of P3,000. Trophies will also be given to the top four teams, while medals will go to the winning boxers.
Aside from the host GenSan team, Davao City willl also field a 12-man amateur boxing team according to according to Luisito Tinagsa of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) Southern Mindanao.
Other teams seeing action are favorite Mandaue City, Bacolod Citry, Cebu City, Aklan, Zamboanga del Norte, South Cotabato, Koronadal City, Kidapawan City, North Cotabato, Aklan, Digos City, Sarangani and Jose Abad Santos. (Rico Biliran/MindaNews)
