More than 200 tankers from various swimming clubs nationwide will dispute for honor in eight age-group categories.
“Mindanao teams, those from Puerto Princesa, Bacolod and Naga will be coming over to join the tournament,” said Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA) Davao Region chief Deedee Gonzales during the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum Thursday.
The three-day swim-fest will feature competition in 7 and under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and 17 years old and above.
Specially-crafted medals are up for grabs in the tournament backed by Arena and Celine.
Reigning titlist Coastland Davao swimming Team (CDST) is all primed up to defend the title in the tournament sanctioned by PASA, the governing body of the sport in the country.
Led by multi-titled swimmers Carlo Rodriguez and Allan Jobero, CDST will try to affirm its supremacy over tough contenders Dadiangas Torpedos of General Santos City, Sea Lions Swimming Club of Koronadal City and the Panabo Swim Team.
Fresh from a remarkable campaign, Rodriguez, 20, said he will do his best to help CDST defend the title.
“I will swim with all my best to win,” said Rodriguez who won identical 7 gold medals in the recent 2007 National PRISAA Championships held in Ilo-ilo City.
