Condes, Davao Region PRISAA medalist, stamped his class over his tough contenders, including members of the national training pool, to clinch the gold in the men’s half-heavy weight division.
The 20-year-old Condes, a third year Marine Transportation student, defeated the rated Zamboanga City bet in the finals to help Holy Cross Judo Club cop the gold medal in the event organized by Philippine Amateur Judo Association (PAJA), the country’s governing body for the sport
“The school community is very proud of him. We also congratulate those who won silver and bronze medals,” said Abraham Verdeprado, sports coordinator of the Holy Cross of Davao College.
The Holy Cross Judo Club under Mariano Barayuga also took home two silver and three bronze medals in the week-long event participated in by top class judokas nationwide, including members of the national team.
Davao Region PRISAA medalist Kristopher Rodio and Janina Garde fought hard but fell short to settle for silver medals in the men’s middle weight and women’s extra light weight division, respectively.
Garde lost to a national team standout in the finals.
Claiming bronze medals after absorbing defeat in their final four matches were Charlot Valindez (women’s light weight), Irish Joy Aseneta (women’s extra light weight) and Cris Jason Gambong (men’s heavy weight).
