All set for ?Run for PEACE?

Various sectors, including government and private, have joined hands to help attain the objectives of the nationwide simultaneous running event initiated by Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) under its president, Dr. Margarita Cojuangco.

Supt. Jesus Unabia, chief of the organizing committee, said two Davao City-based private organizations — the New City Commercial Center and Davao Light Power Company — have signified interest to join the affair by fielding more runners.

“We have invited all sectors of society to join the run for P.E.A.C.E and we were glad with their responses,” said Unabia during the Davao Sportswriters Association Forum.

NCCC will field over 40 runners while DLPC will be sending at least 30 runners in the event, which has already drawn more than 700 participants as of this afternoon.

Unabia said the Philippine National Police (PNP) will field some 500 runners while the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) has vowed to field more than 20 participants.

The Army’s 10th Infantry Division will be fielding not less than 200 runners, according to Unabia.

The one-day event supported by city of government of Davao, Department of Education, Department of Health and Department of Social Welfare and Development, aims to “planting a church, equipping servant leaders, assisting the poor, caring for the sick and educating the next generations”.

Close to 1,000 runners are expected to take part in the regional race organized by Regional Training School-XI

The race will start after the simple opening rites which will be graced by PNP XI director Chief Supt. Andres Caro, Department of Interior Local Government (DILG) Regional Director Rodolfo Rasul and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Leon “Binggoy” Montemayor.

While the centerpiece event is the 21-km race, where a tough contest is expected, most of the runners on Sunday will join the 3-km, 5-km and 10-km fun run in line with the purpose of healthy lifestyle for healthier and happier Philippines.

Runners from Digos City, Tagum City and Panabo City are expected to come and join the event backed by Davao City Sports Development Division and Davao City Sports Council.
