Councilor Dayap, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President, committee on youth and sports chair, said the outgoing council failed to pass the proposed ordinance last year.
Dayap, however, vowed to work hard for the immediate passage of the ordinance in the succeeding council, which will be headed by Vice Mayor-elect Sara Duterte.
The DCSC, according to the proposed ordinance, will be acting as an umbrella body for all sports associations, organizations and groups in the city, both from the public and private sectors.
Dayap predicted an early passage for the proposed ordinance in the next council saying, “many have been waiting for this ordinance to be passed”.
“ The proposed ordinance has the support from the councilors. They are very supportive, “ said Dayap said.
The proposed ordinance is now with Councilor Peter Lavina, who drafted the commission's contitution and by-laws, for "refinement" , She said.
In previous interview, Davao City sports stakeholders called on the elected councilors in the 24-seat Sangguniang Panglunsod to support the passage of the ordinance.
“The best thing for them (councilors) to do is to support the passage of the Davao City Sports Commission,” said Vic Sai, president of the Davao City Sports Council, which is composed of National Sports Association (NSA) regional chapters.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez has vowed to give P500,000 “as seed money” for the commission when the city council finally approves the ordinance.
The commission among others is empowered to implement an integrated sports development program as well as sustain sports training activities, particularly for outstanding athletes and help the city government to identify, plan and manage sports facilities required for the training of athletes and conduct of sports tournaments.
