Over 100 potential young chess players across the region will vie for top honors in the tournament, which starts at 10 a.m.
Competition will be held in 16 and under, 14 and under, 12 and under and 10 years old and under divisions.
“ Many schools have confirmed their participation to give exposure for their young players, “ chief organizer Ronnie Tabudlong said.
The one-day chessfest, which aims to boost the sport grassroots development program, will follow a five rounds Swiss system format with 30 minutes playing time.
“ This event will also serve as tune up games for the players for the upcoming 2007 Shell Active Chess, “ Tabudlong said, former National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director.
Cash prizes, trophies and special give aways are up for grabs in the event supported by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Leon “Binggoy” Montemayor and Davao City Sports Council Inc. headed by Vic Sai.
