The Don Juan Dela Cruz Elementary School ace chesser John Ray, on the other hand, defeated tough foe Patrick Miguel Aquino of Stella Marris Academy in a tie break. Both canned 5 points after sweeping all their matches.
Dhan Vincent Macasero of Dona Assuncion Hizon Elementary School copped the third place with 4 points.
In under 10 class, Austin Jacob Literatus of Don Juan Dela Cruz Elementary School won the crown beating schoolmate Dhona Yngayo in a tie break. Both scored 4 points.
Bhing Joel Gimony of Compostela Valley ’s Lahi Elementary School clinched the third place honor with 3.5 points.
A total of 169 young woodpushers from various scholls across the region saw-action in the one-day chessfest supported by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Leon “Binggoy” Montemayor and Davao City Sports Couincil Inc. headed by Vic Sai.
