The other Mindanao legs of the event will be held on September 30 for the Cagayan De Oro leg, and Oct. 7 in Iligan City and Butuan City on the following weekend. More than 5, 000 runners are expected to take part in the Gen. Santos City leg, which will feature competition in, 3-k, 5k and the centerpiece 21-k run.
The 3-k and 5-k event will be for the aficionados but the 21-k will test the mettle of elite field of runners bidding to qualify for the national finals on November 18, organizers said.
Last year’s 21-k winners Wilson Maningkil and Mona Lisa Ambasa, reportedly, are all set to defend their title in the event which offers some P160, 000 cash prizes and trophies.
Nestle AVP and Consumer Marketing manager Michelle Callo-Alvarillo and Milo AVP for sports Pat Goc Ong will grace the affair, according to Internet reports. Since it started years ago, the National MILO Marathon which has enjoyed much success by constantly attracting a growing number of participants, has grown both in the number of participants and prestige.
The first MILO Marathon was held on May 26, 1974, with some 767 runners taking part in the affair.
