Davao schools ready for 2007 national UniGames

Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC), University of Mindanao (UM) and Ateneo De Davao University (AdDU) are all primed up to do battle in the annual national games for universities and colleges nationwide.

HCDC will compete in men's and women's vollyball, chess, table tennis and medal-rich athletics.

AdDU, on the other hand, will take part in men's volleyball, badminton and the centerpiece event basketball where the University of Mindanao reportedly will be seeing action.

UM sports coordinator Joqauin Sarabia, though, has yet to finalize its events that will be sent in the annual multi-sports extravaganza.

Abraham Verdeprado, HCDC sports coordinator said they are geared up for the week-long event which will be hosted anew by University of St. La Salle , “the Home of the UniGames”.

“Our athletes are almost done in their training camp as part of the preparation for the UniGames, “said Verdeprado.

AdDU sports chief Pochollo Elegino said his athletes are ready to compete with the big schools, most especially from the National Capital Region.

" We will try our best to win against the heavy-weight schools there, " said Elegino whose cagers pulled out an shocking victory overe the much-taller and famous University of Iloilo Wildcats last year.

Holy Cross for the first time in five years will not bring its multi-titled senior's basketball team.

Holy Cross basketball program made its name in the UniGames after beating big schools in the previous stagings, including NCR's Adamson University of UAAP and Central Visayas University of San Agustin of Ilo-ilo City.

More than 30 teams, including those from the UAAP and NCAA, have already confirmed their participation in this year’s Unigames, according to internet report.
