DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 26 Nov) -– It’s all systems go for the 4th Gene Boyd R. Lumawag Cycling Fundraising event — Padyak Para Kay Boyd Para sa Burn Unit 4 — on Sunday, December 14.
The fun ride will start at Ma-a Central Elementary School (Ma-a Gym) at 7:30 a.m.
The annual event is named after Gene Boyd Rodriguez Lumawag, MindaNews photo editor, who would have would have turned 37 on December 14. He was gunned down while on assignment in Jolo, Sulu on November 12, 2004.
Eleven indigent patients admitted at the Dr. Rizal D. Aportadera SPMC Burn Unit benefited from last year’s cycling event which generated P15,138.25 from cyclists and sponsors.
Joselle Badilla, over-all-coordinator of “Padyak Para Kay Boyd 4” said this is the 7th year of the media’ gift-giving activity for the Mindanao Burn Center.
“The proceeds from the cycling event will, as in previous years, be used to buy medicines, burn ointments, antibiotics, food packs, fruits and toiletries,” she said.
Bikers will take a 14-kilometer route from Ma-a Gym, with category short track races inside the Ma-a Central Elementary School’s oval.
Categories are as follows: Beginners A, Beginners B, Juniors, Seniors, Veterans, Masters, Fat Boys, Ladies and Golden Boys. There will be a special category race for bike marshals.
Registration fee is P350 inclusive of souvenir cycling jersey, lunch, certificate and raffle.
The event is presented by MindaNews and supported by the Federation of Off-Road Cycling Enthusiasts (FORCE) headed by former Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Dominic Carpio, RaceLink Davao head Rafael Cruzada, Davao Pobre Bikers Association (Dapoba) and Cycle For Life.

Designated registration areas are 3MJ Cycle Buhangin, Bikerboy and Philippine Daily Inquirer. Last day of registration is on December 10, 2014, Wednesday. On-site registration will be from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. only. Ride will start at exactly 7:30 a.m.
