TAGUM CITY (MindaNews/09 May) — Booters from Western Visayas captured on Saturday its first football crown in the secondary division after beating the National Capital Region Squad in a penalty shootout during the Palarong Pambansa here.
The Western Visayas squad earned its first gold medal in the history of the secondary football in the national games.
Arvin John Bayani opened the score on the third minute of the game. The Western Visayas squad from San Carlos City in Negros Occidental, dominated the first 45 minutes of the game with their relentless attack on the goal.
On the second half, the NCR squad slowly dictated the tempo of the game but the defense of the Negros booters held on.
However, Javier Gayoso even the game after he netted the ball in the stoppage time to tie the game.
Western Visayas squad had several attempts to bring the ball inside the box in the extra two minutes but they ran out of time.
In the penalty shootout, both squads failed to net the ball in their first two kicks. Both keepers were able to stop the balls in the first takes.
But the Negros booters eventually scored three while NCR managed to score twice.
