SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews/13 June) — Endurance swimmer and triathlete Ingemar “Pinoy Aquaman” Macarine did another first in the open water on Sunday by swimming a 16-83-kilometer stretch from Bohol to Cebu.
Macarine, a lawyer who hails from Placer, Surigao del Norte swam solo from the light house in Barangay Babacungan, Cabilao Island in Loon, Bohol to Barangay Bulasa in Argao, Cebu.
He crossed Cebu Strait in five hours and 49 minutes, defying rough waters and hundreds of jellyfish.
“Thank really, thank God for giving me the strength to conquer Cebu Strait despite the bad weather,” he told MindaNews on Monday morning, adding he had to treat the swelling in his body caused by the sting of jelly ish.
Macarine’s swim is part of his lifetime advocacy for clean seas, environmental tourism, and climate change awareness.
The former swimming varsity of Silliman University followed the Marathon Swimming Federation Rules and performed solo swimming without floating aid or help from any human or sea vessel.
Macarine added Sunday’s swim will serve as part of his training for the upcoming English Channel crossing (London to France) in mid-August this year. (Roel N. Catoto/MindaNews)
