DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/ 20 January) – Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao retained his WBA World welterweight title via a unanimous decision win over American Adrien Broner Sunday (Manila time) at MGM Grand Las Vegas.
Showing aggressiveness starting from the opening round, Pacquiao forced Broner to be defensive most of the fight to earn a 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112 score from the judges.
Pacquiao, who celebrated his 40th birthday anniversary in December last year, now carries a 61-7-2 win-loss-draw record in his career professional fights.
Broner would have landed on the canvas in the seventh round had he not embraced the champion after receiving a flurry of punches.
In the ninth round a left straight sent Broner to the ropes where he also held on to Pacquiao to avoid another beating.
Pacquiao won his WBA belt from Lucas Matthysse in July 2018 in Kuala Lumpur. (MindaNews)
