We, at the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), express our most sincere condolences to the families of the 27 people who died and the 77 who were wounded at the bombing of the Jolo Cathedral during the mass last Sunday, 27 January 2019, at 8:40 in the morning.
WEA strongly condemn this evil act that runs against the peaceful teachings of both Islam and Christianity who both respect each other’s places of worship and prayer.
WEA also continues to support the Mindanao Peace Process through Christian- Muslim inter-faith dialogue and cooperation.
We prayerfully affirm the work of the Christian and Muslim peacebuilding advocates and field workers who have been doing advancing the cause of justice and peace for decades.
We call on the authorities to immediately initiate an impartial investigation until all the perpetrators are brought to justice and until all the victims are fully served with just compensation and reparation.
We call on the local leaders of both Islam and Christianity in Mindanao to continue working together in their inter-faith dialogue and cooperation for peace.
We obey the call of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace who said: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9).
