Comelec commissioner’s son nabbed in Marawi

COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/21 June) – The 24-year old son of Elections Commissioner Elias Yusoph was abducted at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday while praying inside the Bato Ali Mosque in Barangay Sabala Amanao, Marawi City, the police chief of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) said.

Chief Supt. Bienvenido Latag, ARMM police chief, said initial investigation showed that Noraldin Yusoph, a resident of the area and son of the commissioner, was praying in the mosque when the armed men arrived and forcibly took the victim.

Suspects are allegedly demanding the annulment of votes in the municipalities of Malabang, Picong, Taraka and Masiu all in Lanao del Sur.

The Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office is exerting efforts to locate the victim. (Ferdinandh B. Cabrera)
