DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/11 February) – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized two alleged “misdeclared” luxury cars at the Sasa Port container yard here, an official said.
A full examination of three container vans shipped from Japan led to the seizure of a Toyota Tundra and a Hummer (H2), Edmundo Magdaraug, BOC deputy collector for operations, said.
He told MindaNews they closely monitored the shipment upon receiving intelligence report from Manila about it.
He said the three vans were declared as containing used furniture but one was discovered to contain the luxury cars.
The two other container vans were stuffed with used clothes.
According to Magdaraug, the shipment’s consignee was Cren Trading. But shipment documents disclosed no address and contact number of the consignee.
“We are now conducting investigation,” he said.
Toyota Tundra, which is designed to meet most off-road driving requirements, is not yet in the Philippines, according to Toyota Davao.
“As of now, it is being sold only in the United States,” the company said. (Rico Biliran/MindaNews)
