ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/19 February) — The provincial government of Sulu is set to receive P171.6 million for the repair and renovation of hospitals and health centers in the province.
Sulu information officer Sonny Abing III, said Saturday that of the P171.6-million allocation P20 million will come from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s Department of Health (ARMM-DOH) as counterpart funds and the remaining amount from the national government through the DOH.
Abing said that P80.4 million will be used for the purchase of modern medical equipment and apparatus and P91.2 million for the repair and renovation of hospitals and health centers.
He said the funding is set to be released to the provincial government early next month.
Scheduled for repair and renovation are the district hospitals in the towns of Luuk, Pangutaran, Parang, and Siasi, and the provincial hospital located in Jolo, the capital town.
Also included in the repair and renovation are the emergency hospitals in the towns of Banguingui (formerly Tongkil), Omar, Panamao, and Tapul.
Abing said that the national government will be releasing additional funding for the purchase of six mobile clinics and two floating clinics for the island towns of Panglima Tahil and Pangutaran.
Sulu, an island province, comprises 19 towns. (MindaNews)
