DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/22 May) — Police are now looking at robbery as the motive behind the killing of a Manila-based businessman in a hotel room here last week.
Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said the police already have a suspect in the killing of Norman K. Dy, 51, president of MKD Trading Corporation and resident of Banawe Street, Quezon City.
“But I’m not ready to talk about these things in public,” Duterte in his Sunday television program Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa (From the masses, For the masses).
The vice mayor said they are inclined to conclude that it was a case of robbery with homicide because some “money and some things” have not been accounted for.
“Contrary to popular belief, it was a case of robbery with homicide, ” he said.
The victim was found dead with head injuries inside his room at D’Leonor Hotel. Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) found blood stains on the walls and bed.
Chief Supt. Jaime Morente, Philippine National Police regional chief, said the victim’s head was believed to have been slammed on the wall by the killer.
Initial investigation by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) showed the victim checked in at the hotel at 6 a.m. Thursday shortly after arriving from Manila to deliver supplies to Robinsons Mall.
Police said the hotel’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera showed that the victim had an unidentified male visitor who knocked on the door at 5:10 p.m and left the place at 6:12.
Based on the CCTV recording, the male visitor described as about 5’7″ in height, of slim built, around 25-27 years old and wearing a cap, a light brown shirt and jeans and carrying a backpack.
Last week, Duterte said the killing will not affect the influx of investors in Davao City. “No way will it affect public order,” he said. (Rico Biliran/MindaNews)
