ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/14 June) – United States Marines will be training their Filipino counterparts to gain more knowledge on responding to and managing a larger and wider scale of disasters in this part of the country.
This is through the conduct of Marine Tactical Warfare Simulation 11-01 training that started Tuesday at the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) command headquarters here.
US Marines Lt. Col. Eric Fagen, Marine Tactical Warfare Simulation training co-director, said the exercise will be purely computer-based.
He said the 12-day training will focus on “humanitarian and disasters scenario” and monitoring operations across many islands.
Part of the training, Fagen disclosed, is how to handle a command and control center.
At least 90 troops from the Philippine Marine Corps and 45 US Marines personnel will take part in the training.
Philippine Navy Capt. Sean Anthony Villa, assistant chief of naval staff for education and training, advised the training participants, especially the Filipino troops, to take the simulation training as opportunity to enhance their capability.
“Take every learning opportunities to prepare yourselves (in any eventuality). Learn as much as you can,” Villa told the participants during the opening ceremony.
“Each of the training has its own benefit. You learn a lot of lesson,” Villa said. (MindaNews)
