ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/03 July) – The mayor of Sibuco in Zamboanga del Norte has requested health officials to conduct a thorough laboratory analysis on the patients he brought to the hospital for treatment to determine what disease they are suffering from.
This as health authorities are still baffled as to the cause of death of four residents and the hospitalization of 19 other residents of Barangay Mantibo, a coastal village in Sibuco.
Sibuco Mayor Bong Edding Edding said the 19 patients are presently confined in the government-run Zamboanga City Medical Center here.
Edding said the lower limbs of the 19 patients are swollen but the attending physicians could not diagnose as yet their ailment.
The patients complained of cramps, loss of appetite and vomiting, he said.
Hospital officials said they have yet to conduct laboratory analysis.
Edding said he has ordered his municipal health officer to check if there are still residents in Mantibo who are suffering the same kind ailment but have not been brought to the hospital.
He described Mantibo as a typical coastal village. He said there are no mining activities in the area.
The barangay has close to a thousand residents, the mayor said. (MindaNews)
